Fedora Spins Off Electronic Lab

FEL aimed at micro-nano electronic engineering field

November 8, 2007 - Today, Fedora released version 8 of its Linux distribution. After introducing installations for specific user groups and workloads - the so-called spins - with Fedora version 7, Fedora 8 is also available in a variant specifically aimed at the micro-nano electronic engineering field.

The Fedora Electronic Lab (FEL) brings you:

tools for Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) design flow process through the Fedora Collection for ASIC Design Flow,
extra open source standard cell libraries supporting a feature size of 0.13 micron,
extracted spice decks which are simulated with gnucap/ngspice.

It is intended for electronic, VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) students and hobbyists for educational purposes. According to the developers, Fedora is the first Linux distribution which considers to ship and provide adequate open source tools to VLSI users and to more than 250 universities around the world.

The Fedora Electronic Lab includes design tools for:

analog/digital simulation,
circuit simulations,
hardware development (VHDL, Verilog), modeling, designing, simulation, synthesis, verification, and documentation,
VLSI (layout, synthesis, Finite State Machines),
micro controller programming,
embedded systems development.
