Quad-Core Encore

New energy efficient server processors consume only 50 Watts of power

March 12, 2007 - Today, Intel expands its Quad-Core portfolio with two low power processors. The L5310 and L5320 CPUs run at 1.60 and 1.86 GHz, respectively, and consume only 50 Watts of power. Both feature 8 Mbyte of two-by-two shared L2 cache.

According to Intel, the new processors - members of the Cloverton LV family - represent a nearly ten-fold decrease in power in less than two years. Dissipation is now down to only 12.5 Watt per core, making these processors a suitable choice for high-density datacenters.
